It started with a phone screen, and then a week later, I had an in-person interview. The phone screening was pretty relaxed and professional, covering both technical and behavioral aspects. After that, there was a group panel discussion with people from different departments. Overall, the process felt carefully managed and the discussions were respectful.

Behavioral Technical Case Presentation

The interview process started with a laid-back phone call with the help desk manager, where we chatted about my background and I got a quick intro to the company. Then came the in-person interview, which was a bit of a surprise with 5 other help desk team members there. They each took turns asking questions related to their specialties, and they seemed really keen on the role-play scenarios. I think I might have fumbled during those. After that, I met with the field tech team for what was essentially the same interview. They were more chill, asking mostly about my personal life and hobbies. Unfortunately, I didn't get an offer after that stage; they thought I seemed disinterested, which wasn't the case. It seems like they're really evaluating cultural fit alongside skills, so keep that in mind.

Confirmed questions6 questions
  • For the role play, imagine an employee calls with a dual monitor setup where both screens are black. How would you handle that?
  • Can you explain how to revert a style in Word 2010 using the styles feature, noting it's different from simple formatting?
  • In this role-play scenario: Printers are set up via a utility for direct network printing without a server. A user can't print and you're the only tech available remotely. Guide them through fixing it.

Behavioral Technical

Applied to a Senior Data Engineer role and was contacted by an external recruiter. After a phone call, my resume was sent to Reliance Steel. Following this, my resume started appearing in job listings outside the US for other companies. Once Reliance Steel had my resume, they allegedly used surveillance and eavesdropping on my cell phone to emotionally reject my candidacy. It seems US corporations dislike US citizen candidates applying to companies outside the US and react negatively. The external recruiter didn't follow up within the promised week. They later sent an email rejection based on a fabricated reason, claiming the client needed a specific IT skill not highlighted in the job description, which I'm well-qualified for. The rejection email also contained hate speech, which feels like US citizens disliking a fellow US citizen candidate. Reliance Steel's reviews align with this experience, and I advise passing on this opportunity due to corruption. I prefer ethical companies and people.

Behavioral

I had a scheduled interview time with the hiring manager. However, they did not show up to the scheduled time and I was left waiting for 30 minutes with no indication of what was going on. Thankfully, we re-scheduled. However, 1 hour before the interview time, we had to re-schedule again. The 3rd time was close to a holiday weekend. I ended up interviewing while traveling. I felt my time was not respected and the communication was extremely poor. Being a no show to an interview is very unprofessional.
