Marketing
I applied online and was contacted by HR for a phone screen. After that went well, I had a phone interview with the Hiring Manager who asked detailed questions about my current role and marketing strategies of other companies. Then, I was asked to submit a writing sample. After submitting it, I was invited for an in-person interview which lasted 4.5 hours and included 8 employees. The first part was with the Hiring Manager and her boss, where they reviewed my resume thoroughly, asking about learnings, changes, and hours worked at each job. I then gave a presentation based on my writing sample, which they critiqued. Interestingly, when I asked about writing tasks, they said no writing is required as there's a communications team. I then had 3 more rounds with 6 other team members, focusing on kCura core values. They presented situations and asked how I'd respond or asked for past examples of similar situations, my actions, and the outcomes. The questions became repetitive, and by the end, I was running out of examples. The overall process felt too long and redundant. After the interview, the Hiring Manager called to discuss my questions during the interview, calling it a 'red flag' and asking if I had concerns. I explained I was trying to ensure a good mutual fit. My advice is that an extensive and redundant process might deter good candidates.
- What would your supervisor say that you had to improve on if I called him?
- What are some mistakes you made in that role?
- Give me an example of an idea you had that failed.
Marketing
I sent in my application in late February, which included a bunch of questions and some creative writing. I followed up in late March since I hadn't heard back and got in touch with the HR person for the job. We chatted, and she set up a phone interview for later that week and then another one with the hiring manager. After that, I had another phone chat, followed by more writing assignments, before they flew me out to meet the team in mid-April. The interview with the whole team was pretty intense, lasting 3.5 hours, and it was all about how I fit with their core values and the team dynamics. Since one team member wasn't there that day, I had a phone interview with him later that week after I got home. The last part was an online demo of the product. They had some tech issues which messed with my prep time, but I still managed to deliver a strong presentation. I got the offer two days later and accepted. Even though it took a while, I appreciated that they wanted to make sure it was a good match for both of us. My HR contact was really good at keeping me updated throughout the whole process. Since the job involves writing, the writing tasks were a good way for me to show what I can do.
- Can you explain your thought process behind choosing the font for your resume?
- Could you provide examples of marketing initiatives you believe were successful and marketing campaigns you found to be unsuccessful?
- What is your definition of humility?
Marketing Operations
The interview was 4 hours long and involved meeting with 4 different groups of 2 people each, followed by an HR meeting. I felt it could have been shorter, like 45 minutes, because they repeated similar basic questions in different contexts, always linking them to their core values. They really look into your resume and ask about everything on it. Some questions felt intrusive about past relationships with supervisors and what I didn't like about working with them.
- Could you describe your experience working with your previous manager?
- What did your last manager identify as your key strengths?
- What did your last manager identify as your areas for improvement?
