I was brought to the back by the assistant store manager, and we sat down at their desk. It was a pretty casual interview where I talked about myself and then answered some typical interview questions.

I dropped off my resume with the assistant manager and got lucky with an interview right away. The interview was surprisingly easy, and the interviewer made me feel super comfortable. They asked a bunch of questions, like what I like to do for fun, how I'd start my shift, how to boost sales to hit targets, building customer relationships, and what I'd do if a customer tried on something that didn't look good. There were others I can't recall. I also had to pick an outfit suitable for both school and work, and they asked personal stuff about my resume and past jobs.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • What would you do if you were busy with a client, the phone rang, and two new customers entered, but your coworker was unavailable?
  • Describe your approach to handling a busy situation with multiple customer demands and a ringing phone when your coworker is not around.

I saw an ad on the Carlingwood Shopping Centre website in Ottawa, so I went in person and filled out an application at the store. A week later, they called me to check if I was still interested and to set up an interview. The questions were pretty standard, asking about a team situation that went wrong, my retail experience, why I wanted to work there, and if I had styling experience. They also asked about my availability, salary needs, and career aspirations.

Confirmed questions6 questions
  • Can you tell me about a time a team project didn't go as planned?
  • What's your background in retail?
  • What makes you want to work for Reitman's?
