Recruiter reached out and I was super excited to join REI. Had just one call with the recruiter, who seemed impressed with my background. They asked about my "years of experience" with like 25 different technologies, which was a bit odd for some since YoE aren't really applicable or easily determined. I followed up, excited to proceed, but never heard back from the recruiter directly. A few days later, I got a generic, automated rejection email saying I was no longer being considered. I emailed the recruiter for feedback and to inquire about other openings, or really just for any human response, but got nothing back. Completely ghosted. I also applied for another role the same day and got a rejection email almost instantly.

So the first thing was this phone call where they asked me some basic stuff about me and my past jobs. Then, the main technical part was with three people from the company. They hit me with technical questions for about 15-20 minutes, and after that, we got to the coding part. They let me pick the language and gave me a problem to solve. The problem was to check directories to see if there are other folders and files in each directory.

I had a really odd interview experience with REI. A colleague recommended me and I applied through their website. The recruiter contacted me within two days. We discussed the role and the company, then she ghosted me for about two weeks. I got an email later saying she'd send a link for a digital interview. If you're unfamiliar, it's basically dressing up and sitting in front of a camera-equipped computer. You answer questions to the camera, and the system records and sends your responses to the hiring team. They gave me a Python coding question and other questions unrelated to the Java position I applied for. I pointed this out to the recruiter, and she said the hiring manager's response was to 'just answer "I don't know"' if I didn't know the answer. That's bizarre! How would that help me pass? At the end, there was a survey. It felt more like testing the application than an interview. I haven't heard back since.
