Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at REI.
Operations Lead
The interview process so far has been great. The recruiter was easygoing and friendly, and they seemed genuinely interested in me as a person and as a potential employee.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your motivation for joining the REI team?
- In your opinion, what constitutes excellent customer service?
- Could you share an instance where you experienced outstanding customer service?
Sales Operations Manager
It started with a phone interview, then went to an in-person interview where different teams of people took turns asking questions.
- Can you share an instance where a project you led didn't turn out as planned?
Supervisor
The interview process started typically with a recruiter call, though the recruiter spent a lot of time pitching the company's co-op model and employee ownership, which felt redundant given my prior research. After this, there was a smooth phone interview with HR. This was followed by a face-to-face panel interview involving the hiring manager, their manager, and a peer supervisor. We also took a half-hour tour of the new facility before the interview itself. The interview was fairly standard, using predictive techniques, which is always a bit of a drag. The waiting and rejection part is tough, but honestly, I was kind of hoping I wouldn't get an offer due to the low salary. Maybe they sensed that. Regardless of the reason I wasn't selected, a professional rejection would have been appreciated. I followed up with the HR recruiter, but never received even a simple email response. Perhaps too busy with the co-op pitch? I took a day off work for this, and their lack of courtesy means they've lost a potential customer.
- How would you describe your leadership style?
