Behavioral Presentation

The interview process was pretty straightforward. It started with a phone screen, then an in-person meeting with the team, followed by a final interview with a VP and a Manager. Everyone I met with was great, although the VP didn't seem super engaged during my interview. Just a heads-up, they'll ask for references and your offer will be contingent on them. So, make sure your current company doesn't have a 'no reference' policy, because mine did, and my offer got pulled because I couldn't provide them.

So, I had a phone screen first with some engineering higher-up. He was really condescending, like, kept saying he fires people who can't learn fast enough. Super nerve-wracking, but I somehow got through. Then, another phone screen with an engineer from the team. It was like a trivia round about Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and software design/architecture stuff. It was tough but the interviewer was way nicer, made me more excited about the job. After that, I went for the on-site interview, which was half behavioral and half technical/trivia. I did okay on the Ruby/Javascript part, but the software infrastructure questions tripped me up a bit. I liked the team, but the same engineering head from the first call kept butting in and being condescending. He basically said I lacked experience but offered a contract-to-hire role, expecting an immediate decision. He threatened to let me go if I didn't meet expectations and that he doesn't deal with incompetence. I mentioned I had other interviews, and he pressured me hard, saying they'd stop interviewing if I continued, and guilted me into deciding. The offer was non-negotiable and he wouldn't give me a letter until I committed. I really liked the team, but couldn't see myself working for that manager, so I declined.

The interview process started with a phone interview with HR. The next week, I had an in-person interview with two managers. The HR person was quick to reply at first, but after the interview, I didn't hear back for over 30 days, only to be told they hired someone else. It felt like after two interviews and a lot of emails, I deserved better than being ignored. The office itself is quite basic. There's an open area with tables where about 15 people are working with headsets. The job sounded really varied and interesting in the description, but it quickly became clear it's basically a call center job. They mentioned you'll be on the phone 90% of the time and doing simple Google searches the other 10%. You need to get a real estate license, which they cover, and their benefits are a bit unusual. They offer a healthcare stipend of about $200/month or you can use their discounted services, which doesn't sound like the typical setup.

it was pretty average but with more questions to know who you are. It was a bit different from my average over the phone interview. Applying to corporate and start ups have different interview processes.
