I interviewed for an internship and was pretty bummed about how it went. The job said it was for people interested in the industry, but then they hit me with technical SEO and GEO stuff that wasn't even in the description. I thought an internship was where you learn that kind of thing, not where they expect you to already know it. It also felt a bit messy, like I had to make the Google Meet link myself, which was weird and not very professional for a job interview. The whole thing took over a month from when I applied to when they rejected me, which felt way too long for an internship and just inefficient. Honestly, it was a letdown because the interview didn't match what the role was advertised as. I probably won't apply here again. It would be better if they were clearer about what you need to know and had a more organized interview process.

Honestly, avoid applying here. Like other reviews mention, Reedsy isn't looking to hire qualified people. They send a test with no clear guidance on how to pass, seeming to depend on the CEO's 'feel.' This was the worst hiring process ever; they actively degrade your experience and call your efforts basic. It's a toxic company. Their feedback shows they know nothing about customer satisfaction, retention, or care – it's purely based on the CEO's 'vibes' about your answers. It's absurd; you have to degrade yourself to pass. They undervalue you and aren't subtle about it. I wish the interview was in person, as I doubt they'd say half of what they wrote to my face. Avoid at all costs!

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • They asked a technical question about Reedsy Studio, which lacks public information for resolution and seems to require internal knowledge or guessing of support procedures.
  • For the last question, they asked for my favorite Giphy.

Technical Coding

Applied for the role and decided to give it a chance despite some negative reviews, but unfortunately, the experience was similar. A lot of work was required for the role, and it was unpaid, with compensation only if hired. The code review seemed to expect production-ready code aligned with their specific culture and preferences, which is unusual as developers typically adapt to a company's culture after being hired. Extra work done on a task was surprisingly marked as a negative. Fellow developers were baffled by the feedback and what Reedsy expects from candidates. After 15 years in frontend development, this experience was unique. It's recommended to consider the reviews and avoid wasting time on this company unless prepared to spend 20+ hours trying to guess their coding culture and preferences. There's a concern that a standard automated response might be given, but the consistency of negative reviews suggests a deeper issue.

So after I applied, they first sent me some SEO questions and asked for my thoughts on Reedsy. Then, there was an initial chat, followed by a stage where I had to write an article like the Reedsy blog. After that, two more interviews happened, and then they gave me an offer.
