First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Red Storm Entertainment.
Environment Artist
So, I learned about this job from someone who already works there, which is pretty typical for how they find people before they even post the job. After I sent in my application, HR reached out to me and set up a phone chat. They also gave me a test to do. Then, I went in for a longer interview, like 3-4 hours. It started with HR stuff, like paperwork and a tour of the building. After that, I met with three artists, one of them being the Art Director for the project I'd be working on. Then, I talked to some producers, and finally, I met with the Director/VP.

- How do you approach texture usage in your work?
- What are your preferred 3D sculpting techniques?
Programmer
I emailed my resume and they got back to me asking about a time for a phone interview. I talked to a senior programmer. At the end, he said everything looked good and they'd call to set up an in-house interview. I never heard back, so after a week I called to check on my status. I left a message but never got a response. The person I spoke with was nice, but not hearing back at all was pretty rude, especially since I was expecting to come in for an in-house.
- Could you tell me about the projects you've worked on previously?
Gameplay Engineer
I put in my application online and soon after got an email for a phone interview. The phone interview included a chat with the HR manager and then two senior engineers, followed by the engineer who would be my lead. After that, I was invited for an in-person interview. First, there was a programming test I had to finish in one hour. Then, I met with two senior producers for the project. They seemed to try to be intimidating to see how I'd react. After that, I talked to a panel of three engineers (the same ones from the phone call) who reviewed my programming test and asked some more programming questions. The final interview was with the VP of Development, who asked general personality, skillset, and goals questions. Lastly, I met with the HR rep who organized my interview, and then I went home to wait for an email. Their response was really quick, I got their reply before I even sent my thank you note.
- Could you write some code for a memory manager that handles constant-size allocations within an array?
Senior Artist
If you can impress them with them with a great portfolio they will quickly consider you. But in the face to face interview that will take a back seat, because they want to learn about your personality. Several people will interview you over the day long process, including people who have never interviewed anyone before.
- What is your favorite Tom Clancy game.
