I had a video call with HR to screen me first, then I talked with some managers about my background and experience. Lastly, I had a technical interview to test my Linux knowledge. The first two chats were pretty chill, but the last one caught me off guard. They said it'd be about problem-solving, but it turned out to be mostly straight-up technical questions.

Behavioral Technical

I applied for Technical Support Engineer. HR contacted me after six weeks, which felt late. She asked if I was still interested. The first interview was two days later, a HR interview. The HR person from Argentina said she'd email about the next stage, a technical interview with a manager. I waited three weeks with no news. I saw on the Red Hat careers site that my application status was 'Not selected.' She ghosted me. Very unprofessional, typical of many tech companies.

I applied through seek.com.au and heard back from the corporate recruiter who chatted about company culture and job details, and confirmed my work eligibility in Australia. Then I had a technical phone interview with a senior technical person about Java and JBoss. After that, I went in for a face-to-face interview at their Mountain View office. It was a bit split, with one interview in person and two over conference call, since the actual job is based in Australia. They seemed really keen to see if I'd be a good fit for Red Hat's culture, so most of the questions were about soft skills, specifically how I aligned with their core values and how my past experience demonstrated that alignment.

  • Be prepared to expect a lot of questions on how you will fit in Red Hat's core values.
