& Process

The hiring process was really quick, simple, and efficient. I applied, had an interview, and met with the regional manager all within the same week. The technical interview covered a lot of ground, generally flowing from one topic to the next. It really focused on my past experiences and how I would fit into the role.

I first connected with Red Hat folks from Raleigh at my school's career fair and gave them my resume. Someone from the consulting team reached out, and we had a first round chat about Red Hat's business and charity work with Linux. I was told it'd be technical, but no actual coding questions came up. Then I got invited to a final round interview in Raleigh. It included a dinner with Red Hat employees from various departments nationwide, followed by a multi-part interview at the office the next day. It seemed like they were trying to find a good project fit, asking about my interests and views on project management and organization, like what kind of clients I'd prefer. I got an offer about two weeks after from the recruiter, with location choices. Waiting felt a bit nerve-wracking, but overall, the process was good, and everyone was really nice. The interviewers seemed genuinely interested and didn't stick to a script like others I'd met. Red Hat seems to really value personality and building a diverse team.

The interview process was pretty standard for big IT firms. It went like this: first, an intro chat, then a coding challenge, followed by a technical interview. After that, there was a panel interview where we discussed software architecture, and finally, an HR interview. I aced all the interview parts, but the company messed up on the salary part. We had an agreed salary earlier, but they offered me 20k less at the end citing budget issues. This was after I had already used 2 weeks of my vacation time to prepare and do the interviews, so I had to turn down the offer.
