First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Recurly.
Visual Designer
I had an initial chat with a recruiter at Recurly, followed by a few more interviews with my potential direct manager. Then, I went through a portfolio review, which included a presentation of some of my work. We also talked about my general work approach and the company culture. Lastly, I had a final meeting with the recruiter to sort out the salary details.
- Could you walk me through the creation process for the projects in your portfolio?
Financial Analyst
I had an interview with HR, then the Finance Team, followed by a case study with a presentation, and then some more interviews. Everyone at Recurly was really nice and easy to talk to. I would have kept going with it if I hadn't gotten another offer. Linda, the Senior Recruiter, was super professional and the best recruiter I've met. She did follow-up calls and cheered me on from the beginning. The interview process is a bit long, but the people there, especially Linda, made me want to stick with it.
- Describe a situation where you encountered a financial problem with someone within the company.
Software Developer
First there was a screening call, then a call with the hiring manager. The hiring manager made it clear that personality fit was the most important thing, asking "Are you one of us?". They mentioned there were no specific hiring criteria or insight into the technical skills needed or how to fill a role. Some advice to future candidates: check other reviews because they aren't positive. This sounds like a company with a typical startup mentality that grows fast but fails to manage staff, hires poorly, and then loses employees.
- What action would you take in a given scenario?
- Can you describe a time when.....?
- Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a coworker where.....
Human Resources Director
The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn in January about this HR Director role. I wasn't looking at the time, but then I got laid off and reached back out. The recruiter said the role was on hold, but I saw it posted again a few months later and applied. I contacted the recruiter again, and we had a phone call where she said she'd schedule an interview with me and the hiring manager. Two weeks later, I hadn't heard anything, so I followed up. The recruiter said they were swamped and I'd hear back the next week. After three weeks with no response, I got an automated rejection email saying the position was filled. I was confused because I thought I was supposed to have an interview. It was a disappointing candidate experience, especially given how many people are looking for jobs right now. I think Recurly could really improve their process for all candidates.
- Can you walk me through your resume and tell me what you're seeking in your next opportunity?
