& Process

The initial role was for a front end developer in the RealPlayer Cloud group, using technologies like Backbone.js, JQuery, Spring, and HTML5. The interview started with a phone call covering general experience, with a specific focus on Spring. This was followed by an in-person interview, which consisted of three separate rounds. The first round involved printing words from a sentence. The second round asked about implementing exception handling and pagination in web applications. The third round focused on JQuery, including selecting all image tags and making an AJAX call. Although I wasn't a good fit for that specific group, they suggested another team working on REST services. I then had a phone interview with the dev manager for that second group. The questions covered my experience, and there was a coding challenge to find the first repeating element in an unsorted array. I offered two solutions, but they wanted an in-place solution, which I couldn't figure out. They also asked about Java's hashtable, hashmap, and hashset, and the internal implementation of hashtable.

I got referred by an employee. First, I had a 20 min phone interview with the Hiring Manager and another 20 min with HR. A week later, I interviewed with 5 people from upper management. Each interview was 45 mins to an hour. They focused on my past experiences to see if they matched the role. It felt positive, but there were other applicants with possibly more Program management experience. This role didn't require a technical background, so no design or coding questions were asked. They assessed my communication skills and passion for building their online community.

I applied and then had a phone interview with HR. A few days later, I had another phone interview with my potential direct manager. Then, a week after that, I went to the Reston office for an official interview. During that official interview, I had four 20-minute one-on-one interviews with people I would be working with directly. Most of these interviews involved explaining the job position.

I went through a phone screen, followed by two more phone interviews with the hiring manager. I felt pretty good about them, but unfortunately, I got a rejection email. It's a shame because this seems like a really interesting team and I'm definitely qualified, so it baffled me. I'm always a bit disappointed when companies rely solely on phone interviews to make their decisions.
