Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Reading Partners.
Program Manager
The interview process started with a phone screen where they asked about my interest in Reading Partners and how it aligns with my career goals. We also discussed salary expectations. They also wanted to know about my experience with project management and organization, people management, problem solving, student success strategies, and how I translate data into action for students.
- How do you leverage student data to achieve desired student outcomes?
- Can you share your interest in Reading Partners and how this position aligns with your career aspirations?
- What are your salary expectations?
Program Manager
This was a super thorough and well-run interview process. There were three main parts: first, a quick 30-minute screen. Then, a longer topgrading interview for about 60-90 minutes where we just talked about my resume and past experiences. Finally, there were four 30-minute one-on-one chats with different team members to check out my competencies. The hiring manager was really great about communicating and always got back to me quickly, and I felt like they did a good job of getting to know me.
- Can you tell me why you're interested in RP and what makes this the right time for you?
Program Manager
First, there was a phone screen with someone from HR. The second round was a Zoom interview with two people more senior than me. I didn't get to the third round, which I was told would have been a Zoom with four people who would have been my colleagues. The first call was easy and nice, but the second interview was really awkward because the interviewers seemed uninterested and unfriendly. They asked some questions about my management style and behavioral things, which were fine, but some questions felt like they were for a higher-level position, not really fitting for this role. I knew after that interview and because of the interviewers' vibe that I didn't want to continue. Even after I sent a thank you note, nobody from the company got back to me, not even with a generic email saying I didn't get the job. This company has a great mission, and maybe the interviewers were just having an off day, but I felt like they didn't value my time as a candidate.
- Can you tell me about your approach to management?
- How do you handle issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion?
- Discuss an instance where your previous organization needed to change its objectives or allocate different resources. What actions were implemented for this adjustment, and what was the result?
