The hiring process involved three steps. First, a roughly 20-minute phone chat with HR to check my background and interest. Then, a two-day at-home technical test covering REST API design and an algorithm problem. Finally, a 1.5-hour video call with the CTO and a lead dev from the team. The vibe was professional and supportive, and they took time to explain technical challenges and team context.

So, the interview process was, uh, 'interesting'. The interviewer didn't seem super up-to-date on the field or what the team actually does. My questions about potential projects were met with, like, vague answers and buzzwords. And when I asked about qualifications, they said I needed more client experience. I asked around in web dev groups online, and it sounded like they wanted to hire someone senior but pay them like a junior.

Behavioral Technical Coding Group

I had a 30-minute phone chat with the hiring manager, who asked about my skills and personality. Then, they gave me a small project to work on, which took a couple of evenings. They reviewed my code for that project. After they liked my project work, I went in for a group interview, meeting with three different teams. One interview included a coding challenge where I had to write code on the spot. The whole interview process took about 4 hours.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • The coding challenge was tough because I wasn't expecting it during the interview, and I had to use their laptop and dev environment. They were patient while I adjusted, but I'd have preferred using my own machine.

First they asked me about my resume, then they asked basic questions about finance, what I know about finance, what I know about the markets, and about what can happen in the market when they do monetary policy and fiscal policy.
