There were 5 rounds in total. The first was a screening with an engineering manager or reporting manager. The second round was with a Senior Staff engineer from the US, focusing on overall technologies and my past work. The third round was with the Director of engineering, covering system design and CS fundamentals, with a creative question that needed to be mapped to CS fundamentals.

Make no mistake, this is going to be similar to a FAANG loop. It's 8 rounds long, total commitment is around 9 hours, give or take. Take home and live tech screens are required. I don't really blame them given the sensitive nature of their work, but it's a trek for sure. I made it through 6 of 7 but didn't get to the final round. Recruiter screen - 10m, Zoom interview with FE Dev (Tech questions) -30m, Take home assignment - 4hr, Zoom interview with FE Dev (Tech screen) - 1.5 hours, Zoom interview with FE Dev (Tech screen) - 1.5 hours, Zoom interview with DE (Culture fit) - 30m, Zoom interview with Product Owner/Engineering Manager - 30m, Zoom interview with CTO - 30m

I had an interview with a Product Director who is based in the US. We talked a lot about my product development experience, specifically in AI and Healthcare/Lifescience. They asked for specifics like how I develop a CDS, ethical considerations, and familiarity with HL7/FHIR. After that, I was told HR would contact me about the next steps. I followed up a few times with HR/recruiter but didn't hear back. The recruiter even said they've been asking for feedback themselves and that this sort of thing has happened before. So yeah, basically got ghosted, which is a shame for the company.

Technical Coding System Design

A hiring consultancy reached out about a job, which led to a technical interview. It was an hour long and started with Java Spring Boot questions and then some technical design talk. It was pretty average difficulty. But then, with only 10 mins left, they threw in a HackerRank challenge with two coding problems. Since there wasn't much time, I offered pseudocode, thinking it was a timed thing. Turns out it wasn't, and I figured the job was more of a Tech Lead role than a Solution Architect. Considering that and how the conversation went, I decided not to move forward because it wasn't really what I was looking for.

  • How would you design scalable, maintainable, and high-availability Java-based systems?
  • What's your approach to securing Java-based microservices architectures?
