The whole process took two weeks and there were 4 rounds of technical discussion. Every round of interview was positive and after the hiring manager round I have asked to wait for 3 days for the updates. I have waited for it and when I called to the HR the response I heard was its on hold and you lacked on Design question. I just wanted to let you know everyone that there were no design questions. This is a purely unprofessional attitude by Rakuten. After several rounds(4) of interviews, which were all positive, simply putting candidature 'on-hold' doesn't make any sense. There should be justified and actual reasons provided to the candidate in such a case. First and foremost, there were no communications sent from the company side & after several calls, HR simply saying - 'your profile is on hold/'/'your design skill is not that good' proves the lack of transparency in the interview process. If the stated reason was real, I wanted to know what design questions were asked? and What did I lacked in my provided solution. I deserve to know the explanation and I hope this is not a tendency of Rakuten(Online platforms are full of such reviews). I would recommend never ever give your valuable time with Rakuten. I have seen this happening to multiple folks out there who interviewed with Rakuten.

I was invited to the company. The infra looked good and the hr seemed helpful. I started with my first round, the interviewer seemed impatient as if he had to be somewhere else. He started by giving me a problem, and as i was discussing the solution , he interrupted and said you have 5 mins to code this problem. I couldn't code it in the most optimised solution, so he commented that it's such a easy problem. Then he started asking me questions on spring and core java that seemed fine. What irritated me was when he started asking me about time complexity of sorting algorithms and was asking me time complexity in worst case and best case. The worst part was he was expecting answers in 30 secs. He asked me tough problem and then told 15 mins to code with all edge cases. Then, he kept checking his watch every 2 mins. He asked me 3 programming questions and 25 theory java questions in 1 hr that felt like 2 hrs. I read such horrible reviews about rakuten and it's interview process, i never thought it was gonna be this bad. They want people who can mug up geeksforgeeks not developers.
