& Process

I had a phone call with a recruiter who reached out to me. We talked about my qualifications and I learned the company has an interesting niche in the market. We agreed to move forward, which led to a discussion with the hiring manager. We again discussed my interest, my current work, and my overall qualifications. There was some confusion about the role; the recruiter said it was for a Senior Data Engineer, but the hiring manager thought I was interviewing for a Data Science role. They wanted 10 years of experience for the Sr DE position, so we shifted to discussing the Data Science role. This led to a take-home assignment involving Python, sqlite tables, and CSV files. The assignment, which was supposed to take 1.5 hours, asked for a predictive model from a sqlite db with 10+ tables. Just preparing the data for a simple scikit-learn model would take about an hour, and there were other questions. The expectations for the assignment seemed a bit unrealistic. I completed it and was told I'd hear back in 1-2 days, but it's been over two weeks with no response. While my skills might not have met their expectations, I spent a weekend on this, and the lack of communication after two weeks is insulting. I expect to hear nothing and wouldn't continue with them. They need to figure out what they want!

I had a phone interview, then I didn't hear anything for about a week. When I followed up, they wanted to hire me on the spot and have me start that same day. I asked to meet the team first, so I went in for an in-person interview. I felt like I was bothering her the whole time, and the environment was crazy and chaotic. We agreed on what needed to be done and I was supposed to start the next day. I didn't hear back, so I contacted my recruiter, and they told me the client decided not to move forward, saying my skill set wasn't what they needed. The real reason was when I asked about the timeline for redesigning their website, I figured it would take about two months. When I mentioned two months, she wasn't sure if they had that much work and wanted it done in about two weeks, without caring how. Terrible attitude and disorganized, wanting a lot for nothing.

It was a pretty typical interview process. Started with a phone screen, then an in-person interview, and then another in-person interview. The phone screen was more about getting a feel for the company culture and values rather than the job itself. The second interview was pretty good because I met with one of the current sales reps and their sales manager. They talked a lot about the business and the role, and then asked a bunch about my background. Then we moved into some situational stuff to see how I'd do in sales. I found it a little tough since I wasn't super familiar with the channels Raise sells through, but they helped me out and the current sales rep was really good about clarifying things, making it feel like a real situation and giving me a better idea of the day-to-day. The last interview was also in person with the Head of Sales. He was pretty intense and went straight into the situational questions. He really dug into my sales 'process' and asked me to break down each step of my sales techniques.

The Recruiter reached out to me to schedule a phone screen, which went well. After that, they arranged an onsite interview. The onsite part was decent; it was organized, on time, and most people were friendly. They mentioned they'd follow up in a few days, but I didn't hear back, even after I tried contacting them. Weeks later, I received an automated rejection, but I had already accepted another offer by then. I was hoping for a more personal response since I took time off work to visit their office. Overall, not the best experience for a candidate.
