I talked with the Director of Engineering and a Senior Software Engineer. We first chatted about the job and my background. Then, we moved to the technical part. They asked me to code a Singleton in Java, which was straightforward. The next question was out of the blue, involving a binary tree, something I haven't used in over 7 years. I mentioned this and asked for a different question. The interview continued with me coding solutions on paper and answering some general Java, JavaScript, and Hibernate questions. It was a bit weird because the interviewers were chatting about TV shows while I was working. It seemed like they weren't well-prepared, as they kept looking at each other for the next question instead of having a list. I asked about benefits and they said only 5 days of PTO in the first year. In the end, I didn't get an offer. They said they liked me but couldn't offer me the job because I didn't attempt the binary tree question. It's strange they kept me for another hour and a half after that. I even solved a question the Director of Engineering couldn't. Definitely not a good use of time. My advice to other software engineers: avoid this place. Their tech approach isn't forward-thinking. The engineering area is also pretty depressing, unlike the sales area which is loud with calls all day.

After applying online, if the research department likes your resume, they'll send you a personality test to complete and return. If your personality aligns with their preferences, a research team lead will contact you to gauge your interest in an interview, which could be as soon as the next day. Upon arrival, expect to take a 12-minute Wonderlic test. While it's graded, you can observe the casual workplace attire, but dress professionally (suit for men, pant suit or conservative skirt for women). After the test, one or two research team leaders will interview you, asking general questions like 'why RainKing' and 'why you want to leave your current job.' A benchmark must be met on the Wonderlic to be hired, though you'll still be interviewed regardless of the score. Afterward, email the interviewer(s) within 24 hours. If you impress everyone, a call from upper management within a week will likely extend an offer.

I applied and got an email asking me to do a writing analysis and the Wonderlic, which is a critical thinking test. After doing those, they emailed me back in a day or two to set up a phone interview. The interviewer told me about the company's history, culture, and what the job entails. They asked me about my experience, both professional and educational, and what I'm seeking in an internship. I sent a thank you email after the call, and within a few days, I got an email with a job offer.

I sent in my resume and cover letter after seeing the job on craigslist.org. A few days later, they emailed to set up an in-person interview for later that week. When I got to the office, someone showed me to where I'd meet my interviewer, the Research Team Leader. We had to wait a bit for a room, but then another Research Analyst gave me a Wonderlic test, which was kind of like the SATs. After I finished it, the interview started. It was pretty relaxed. They talked about the job and I got to ask my questions. I thought it was done, but then I was taken to meet the Chief Content Officer. He had me do a quick writing task, just summarizing a paragraph from an article. We chatted for a little, and then I left. I sent thank you emails that night and asked about what's next. It was Friday when I interviewed, and by Monday night, the Chief Content Officer called with a job offer. He said he'd email the formal offer letter the next day, but I had to remind him a week later to actually send it, which held up the negotiations. Everyone was chill though, no pressure.
