First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Rail Europe.
Frontend Engineer
The interview process was easy to get through and it was fast. First, I talked to an external HR person to get some information about me. Then, I had a meeting with a manager from the company. Lastly, there was a technical interview with two developers.
- He inquired about my degree of involvement within the company and my proactivity, aiming to check my seniority level.
Finance
The interview process has three steps: first with HR, then the manager, then the VP. Interviews can go fast, but I don't recommend this company as they are not very ethical. When you are not selected, they don't bother contacting you to tell you the result, they literally ghost you, especially since it's the least they could do at the last step. Not serious at all and it says a lot about the company.
- Why Raileurope, what interests you.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses.
- What can you bring to our company.
Project Coordinator
First, I had a Skype interview with my potential manager in Paris. It was a good 2-hour conversation, and we both felt positive about the potential working relationship. Although they gave positive feedback, they requested an in-person interview at their US office. Since I was out of state at the time, after some back and forth with the staffing firm, they agreed to a phone interview a month later. I had already mentioned to the manager that while I wasn't technical, I was familiar with the required data protocols and that training would be provided. During the second interview, the English was difficult to understand. The interviewer, who managed programmers, seemed unaware of my background or previous discussions. When I asked about our working relationship, they stated we wouldn't work together at all. It's unclear why this interview was arranged. It felt like a technical interview for a Business Development role, even though the actual role was for Partner/GSA Enablement in the Americas, not a programmer job, and they wanted a fresh perspective on scaling. The conversation was awkward and hard to follow. To top it off, the interviewer mentioned they were told I was abroad with immigration issues as the reason for the phone interview. This last interview felt unprofessional and unnecessary, especially given the interviewer's apparent belief that someone in this role for the Americas must have immigration problems.
- What's your experience with various data exchange protocols?
- How would your role interact with mine, and in what situations would we collaborate?
- Tell me about your background and how it fits this position.
Engineering Manager
I had a 30-minute call with the Hiring Manager. After introductions, the interviewer explained about Rail Europe while being distracted by people in the open space. I then discussed my work experience. The interviewer seemed inattentive and abruptly asked about my current salary. When I expressed discomfort sharing that and asked about the budget for the position, the interviewer became upset and refused to share it. The interview concluded, with a promise of feedback in two to three weeks, which never arrived.
- What is your current salary?
