The interview process at OpenPhone (now Quo) was super smooth. The recruiter was awesome, always quick to help out, answer questions clearly and thoroughly. The process had 3 rounds: a technical interview, a System Design interview, and a Product sense interview. All the interviewers were really supportive and worked collaboratively. They seemed focused on testing how deep I knew specific topics rather than just broad knowledge.

The interview process was very well structured, starting with two initial screening calls, followed by an interview with the Engineering Manager, a technical discussion, a system design interview, and finally a values-based conversation. Initial conversations were scheduled across multiple days, while the technical, system design, and values interviews were all scheduled on the same day. While this could have been challenging, I felt very well supported throughout, and the overall flow was managed smoothly. I particularly appreciated the organization of the system design interview. The discussion was clearly divided into high-level requirements and low-level implementation details, which made it much easier to structure my thinking and cross-reference solutions. This thoughtful approach set the tone for a productive and engaging technical discussion. Throughout the entire process, I consistently felt accommodated and supported. The interviewers approached the conversations with a friendly and encouraging attitude, which helped turn what is often a stressful experience into something much more genuine and collaborative. The interviews felt like authentic conversations where I could share my experience and describe how I solve problems and collaborate with others. The team was also transparent about the company’s culture and way of working, sharing valuable insights that helped me understand whether I was a good fit.

Overall a positive vibe with everyone and the company. Seems like a good place to work. I was torn between 'positive' or 'neutral' experience but the 7 round interview with multiple technical rounds was excessive. They said the takehome takes 4 hours but it took me over 12 hours to get basic functionality working even with AI allowed. I took a day off work for 4 interviews only for them to reschedule the day before, which was pretty disrespectful. Everyone I met was nice and genuine, so I don't think it was bad faith, just disorganization.
