Quinnipiac University Interview Questions
& Process

I went to an interview at Quinnipiac University for a carpenter position. There were eight of us interviewed individually by two facility managers. They told us about the job and asked carpentry questions. The managers said they would bring three applicants back for a skills test. I wasn't chosen to come back for the skills test, and I didn't get the job. I thought the interview was fair and related to the job.

Applied online and got a screening interview with four people. They asked basic questions like 'tell me about yourself'. Then I had a second interview, in person, which went well. I was asked to take an assessment test, which I passed. After that, they asked for references. When they called my references, one of them said I was let go, which was news to me. I had a great record at my last job and even got a spot bonus before I left for personal reasons. They insisted I provide two supervisors, but I didn't have supervisors in my previous higher ed role at an Ivy League school where I worked for over 10 years. They didn't even bother to call or give me feedback on why I wasn't selected, even though I was willing to accept their low salary of $24.50/hr. I wouldn't recommend applying unless you have a spotless record and are willing to work for next to nothing.

The interview process was super long. It took 6 weeks after applying online to get an email from the hiring manager for a phone interview. A week after that, I went to Quinnipiac for an in-person interview and a campus tour, where I also had to present on a topic. Five weeks after the in-person interview, I found out I didn't get the job. The process itself would have been fine, but I'm still waiting to be reimbursed for my travel expenses from the in-person interview, two months later. I keep having to follow up with the hiring manager and their assistant about the check, which is kind of awkward. If you're not from around here and applying to Quinnipiac, just be ready to wait months for expense reimbursement if they offer it. Good thing I went with the cheaper flight!

I was referred to the department by a colleague and then reached out to the department head. They invited me for an interview that week. We talked about my teaching experience, style, and philosophy, and my availability was also discussed. It felt more like a casual conversation than a formal interview, with the department head asking questions.
