This interview was definitely a strange one. Instead of happening at the company office, it took place at a third-party recruiter's office. The conversation involved a mix of what I'd normally expect for technical trivia, but then got into some really weird, obscure trivia too. It was a 2-on-1 situation, but one of the interviewers barely said anything, which they explained by saying they didn't speak English well. Hmmmmmm. I never got any feedback or follow-up after it was over.

It was a long and drawn out interview process with updates few and far between. A lot of work was involved in the process, like story pitches and a beat outline. Ultimately, I left the experience with a very negative impression of Quartz because it didn't feel like the editors appreciated the applicants. Even though I checked with editors multiple times for an update on the hiring, I ultimately received a form rejection letter. Furthermore, the interviewers repeatedly asked about how to frame things for the Quartz audience, and it remains a mystery who that audience is.
