My interview was over the phone. A friend recommended me to the owner, and he called me to ask about my experiences, particularly my experience with customers and hospitality. He said he would get back to me, which he did in a few days. I was told to come in for training. I was first hired as a front desk agent.

The hiring process was really laid back and felt personal. The company itself is really professional and super nice and accepting! As long as you agree to and go over the company rules and guidelines, you'll be good to go. They did ask if you have your own car, so just keep that in mind.

Behavioral Case Presentation

In this role, you'll be the main strategic leader for the hotel, handling everything from guest and employee satisfaction to HR, finances, and sales. You'll analyze business performance and work with the team to create strategies, make key decisions, clear roadblocks, and ensure resources are available. A big part is making sure brand standards are met to exceed guest expectations and then communicating any necessary follow-ups. You'll also drive sales by being involved in the sales process, pushing the leadership team to create revenue management strategies and set aggressive financial goals. Preparing an annual budget and business plan with department heads is key for smooth operations, setting financial targets, and planning expenses. Finally, you'll monitor sales and revenue to see how actuals compare to goals.

Technical Behavioral

I was a little skeptical about the interview. The ownership did not want to meet at the property, which was weird since I've been in the hotel industry for 7 years. They asked me to meet them at Applebee's, which required a long drive. They were vague about which Applebee's, and I had to figure it out myself. When I got there, I had to wait 20 minutes for them to finish another interview. They didn't make much eye contact and used fake names. On my first day, nobody was ready for me, and I had to wait an hour for them to confirm my hiring. The training was poor because there was no manager, though a new one was starting soon. He also had to be trained by the current staff. The whole start was really bad, and I should have left then.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • They wanted me to answer questions using a hotel program I hadn't used before, which they didn't mention in the ad. I told them I hadn't used that software, but they said if I had hotel experience, I should be able to figure it out because 'all hotel software is the same.'
  • Turns out they didn't know how to use the software themselves, but I didn't find that out for about a year.
