First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Qualcomm.
Staff Software Engineer
We had 4 rounds total. First, an HR screening, then a technical screening where you could explain and show your project skills. After that, an onsite technical coding round, followed by a system design round and a round with the director.
- Can you find and fix a bug in the provided logic for the hill and valley problem, and provide test cases for it?
Staff Engineer
Got a call from Qualcomm Bangalore HR for this Staff Engineer position. The first round was with the hiring manager, lasting an hour, focusing on the role and my technical background. Then, there were 4 technical rounds, lasting a continuous 5 hours. Most questions were about my past projects, and some rounds were conducted by junior engineers. After spending a total of 6 hours in the interview process, I haven't received any feedback or closure email from Qualcomm HR. It's frustrating because we take time off for these long interviews, and there's no communication. If they were serious about hiring, they would at least provide updates. I'm not sure if they schedule interviews just to learn about others' work. Be cautious with companies that have such poor processes and ethics.
- Can you solve a horse race puzzle to identify the top three finishers?
- Could you elaborate on your previous work experiences?
- What can you tell me about your past projects?
Staff Engineer
The interview started with a phone screening where they asked resume-based questions and probed about CDMA, soft-hand, and OFDM. Then I was invited for an on-site interview. The on-site involved interviews with 7 senior engineers. Qualcomm's interview process is really well-organized, so you just need to be prepared and confident. All the interviewers were really humble and nice. They will test your knowledge in all the areas mentioned in the job description and your resume, so make sure to review everything. During lunch, I was given a problem about optimizing traffic at the cafeteria's access point, which we discussed throughout the lunch break.
- What's the difference between gsm and cdma?
- Can you explain the rake receiver and how it combines signals?
- Please draw and explain the difference between 64-qam and 16-qam constellation diagrams.
