Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at QAS.
Paramedic
It was an assessment day with about 30 people. We did computer tests (psych, verbal, math, abstract reasoning), group scenario tests, and an interview. For the scenarios, work as a team and don't be arrogant.
- Describe a situation where you had to manage a conflict within a team.
Paramedic
It was an online interview with 4 clinical questions. You had 30 minutes total to answer them. You didn't see the questions beforehand. You could take as long as you wanted on each question, but you didn't know if the next question would need more time than the previous one.
- Can you share an instance where you made an error, and describe your process of reflecting on it?
Paramedic
First there was psychometric testing, and then some months later, a panel interview with 4 people from the service. They gave us some questions to look at for 5 minutes, and then 10 minutes to make some dot point answers to help us in the interview. It might have felt confronting because the panel was made up of 4 high-ranking officers in formal uniform.
- What makes you a suitable candidate for a paramedic role?
- What motivates your desire to become a paramedic?
- Can you describe any prior or comparable experience you have in emergency care?
Paramedic
I applied for Qualified Paramedic and it was a panel interview online with 2 paramedics and an HR employee. The process was very quick and I had to do some behavioral quizzes before the interview. There were about 4-5 behavioral questions.
- Regarding a patient refusing transport, what steps would you take to assess them, manage the situation, and what non-transport alternatives exist?
- How would you show the community that QAS is a caring organization?
- Tell me about a time you had a conflict with another healthcare professional and how you resolved it.
