First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pure Watercraft.
Intern
The interview process had 2 rounds. The first round was a behavioral interview with basic questions that I had to answer using the STAR method. About a week after the first round, I had the second round which was a technical interview where we just discussed my favorite past project. Both interviews were about 20-40 minutes long. I was later given an offer, but it was rescinded.
- Could you tell me about your biggest weakness?
Software Engineer
I was contacted by people pretending to be from the company. Pure Watercraft was great and stopped the scam quickly. The scammers used an 'email to email' interview where they sent a word document. If you're interviewing with them, I suggest reaching out to other people on LinkedIn to be safe.
- The scammers asked some really basic questions that you could just get from reading my resume.
- Their grammar was also pretty bad and some questions seemed like they were asking the same thing twice.
Graphic Designer
I got contacted and they wanted to do an interview at 7am, without checking if that time was okay for me. Then the interview date passed and I heard nothing. Later, I got sent a take-home test with questions, and I had to complete it in 90 minutes. I couldn't do it then because I was out of office. I said I'd send it Monday, and at 11am Monday, I got a really rude email "reminding" me to submit my answers. I then withdrew my application because the whole experience was bad. They were blunt and rude in all communication. I don't want to work there if this is how they talk to applicants.
- Are you working right now?
- Can you commit 20 to 40 hours a week?
- How do you know if your graphic designs are successful?
Head of Supply Chain
A recruiter reached out the day after I applied for the Head of Supply Chain role. We spoke for over 4 hours across a couple of calls. He suggested I email the Head of Talent (HoT), which I did, twice. HoT got back to me the next day for a 2-hour call. I followed up with HoT via email, and so did the recruiter, but weeks passed without a reply. Then, HoT scheduled a 3-hour interview which included a 30-minute group intro where I had to present something interesting from my background to break the ice (slides optional). This was followed by 1:1s. I presented a deck covering my personal and professional background, then my approaches to supply chain. There was absolutely no reaction during my presentation. At the end, the CEO, Engineering, and Manufacturing leads just disconnected. HoT informed me I wasn't a good fit. When I asked for details, I was told the Google Meet call started off poorly and my mention of Li-Ion batteries was irrelevant. My 20 years of SCM experience at major companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Honeywell, and Philips, plus two startups, makes this whole experience incredibly degrading.
- Regarding Panasonic batteries, what are your thoughts on why they might not be a long-term partner for Tesla?
