First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Pumpkin Petcare.
Digital Designer
The interview process was pretty structured. It started with me chatting with the CEO, then I had a few rounds with the PM and Product Lead. We talked a lot about how I work with people, specifically asking about using design systems and my process for handing off work to developers. A big thing they asked about was how I'd deal with conflicts, like if engineers wanted to do simpler tasks instead of the more important, difficult ones.
- How do you use design systems?
- What's your handoff process like with developers?
- How would you manage a situation where engineers prefer to work on simpler tasks over more impactful, complex ones?
Account Executive
This was easily the worst interview process I've ever been through. Process was dragged out over a few weeks. First spoke with the recruiter, then the hiring manger. Third round was about 3 1/2 hours long including 3 1x1's and a full project presentation using their slides. The people interviewing were nice. After that we spoke about licensing. Now for the fun part - 4 weeks of - 1x email per week saying they were sorry people were out on pto ect... only to get a call from recruiter saying they went in a different direction.
- Can you describe a challenging situation and how you resolved it?
Recruiter
Started with a recruiter phone call, then a case study and presentation for the interview panel, followed by 30-minute chats with each team member. Finally, met with the CEO.
- What makes you want to join this company?
Customer Service Representative
I spoke with three different people across three meetings over two weeks. I was given a take-home assignment that was like a homework paper to show I read their FAQ, but they never asked me about it. They said it would take two hours and be discussed in the next meeting. The director of operations was argumentative and seemed like they had better things to do. They acted like they already decided my past experience wasn't a fit, even though I came from the same field and others said I was overqualified. They were very picky for a small startup. I should've seen the strenuous onboarding as a red flag. In the end, they didn't even have the courtesy to email or respond to tell me they went with someone else. The actual manager I spoke to was nice.
- What would you say to a customer whose pet just died?
