First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at PSEG Long Island.
DSO
The interview process had a few stages. It started with an initial phone interview. Then, there was a test covering math logic and a psych evaluation. After that, a formal interview, which I think is usually in person, but mine was on Zoom. Then, a lot of waiting.
- Can you describe a past project where you demonstrated critical thinking?
Customer Service Representative
You'll be interviewed with more than one person in the room. They'll start by going over the job requirements and explain that the training is in 4 parts and might go past 4 months if there are bad weather events. They'll also mention that training is full-time, in-person, five days a week. After that, the interview starts.
- Do you have a dependable way to get to work?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved STAR method questions, with some technical elements but a primary focus on my resume, actual experience, and skill set. It seemed like a very basic interview, which would have been easy if I was prepared. I received an offer, but declined due to dishonesty about the role's remote status. I was initially told it was fully remote with only occasional in-person requirements for storm duty, which I found acceptable. However, after the interview and offer, they changed it to a mandatory 5-day in-office schedule, requiring a 2-hour commute each way. This was unbelievable and dishonest, so I declined the offer after a month-long process. Don't trust the job description.
- Can you share an instance where you had to meet a deadline?
Performance Measurement Analyst
You'll need to be ready to go over your resume. My interview was with 3 people at once over Zoom. It began with some situational behavior questions, then moved into technical questions using the STAR method. You should use STAR for all answers, though. There weren't any quick questions like 'what does a join do in SQL?' Instead, they asked things like 'tell me a time you had to do something you had never done before. What research and tools did you use?'
- How would you go about presenting a dataset to various audiences, and what tools would be best for that?
- Can you share an instance where you encountered a task completely new to you, detailing the research and tools involved?
- Describe a time you interacted with a dissatisfied client and the steps you took to manage the situation.
