First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Providence College.
Graduate Assistant
We had a Zoom meeting and then they hired me. It was just one interview, all done over Zoom. The questions seemed easy, but the actual work isn't if you don't do your research. You'll get the job if you have the skills they're looking for.
- Can you tell me about your greatest strength?
Assistant Professor
We started with a tour of the building, seeing the parts that are still under construction and also what could be my lab space. Then there was a research talk given to both students and professors. After that, I had one-on-one meetings with individual faculty members and the president. I also met with a group of students who didn't seem super enthusiastic. Finally, I had dinner with two faculty members.
- What is your reason for choosing our institution?
Assistant Professor
They were really quick to set up interviews once the application period closed. I had a 20-minute video call with about five people from the hiring committee. They each asked me a question one after another, and then the chair talked more about the job details.
- What about teaching at a Dominican institution attracted you? (Note: This is a Catholic university, so be mindful of potential religion-based questions even with an EEO statement.)
Fitness Center Manager
It was a pretty simple interview. Make sure you can talk about your past leadership jobs. If you have any connection to the Fitness Center on campus, that really helps your case.
- How would you balance academic and extracurricular pursuits with a part-time role?
- Can you describe your previous leadership experiences?
- Do you have any personal connections to the campus Fitness Center?
