Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Protocol Labs.
Software Engineer
First, a hiring manager call. Then, 4 more rounds. They've got a fast-track system where they'll cut you loose and cancel the rest of your interviews if you don't measure up in any single round. The interviews cover large-scale design, small-scale design, behavioral, and coding.
- Can you explain a data structure related to Merkle trees?
Software Developer
I was contacted on LinkedIn, and we chatted about our mutual interests before scheduling a virtual meeting. During the interview, they explained how Protocol Labs operates, mentioning their global distribution and that the role is remote. The position focuses on building infrastructure and protocols for Web3.0. They were keen to learn about my previous experience and my technical background, and they prefer candidates with knowledge in cryptography and Rust.
- Could you start by introducing yourself?
- Can you elaborate on your past experience and projects?
- What technical stacks are you familiar with?
Software Engineer
The job application response was really fast, but things went downhill from there. They rescheduled the first call last minute. Then, three other interviews had their dates and interviewers changed multiple times by two different recruiters. After waiting over a week post-interviews, I had to chase them for an update. Turns out, it was a no-go, with no specific feedback. Some interviewers were great - competent and humble. The hiring manager, however, seemed out of touch and insincere.
- Tell me about your technical knowledge.
- What do you know about security in software development?
- Can you answer some questions about cryptography?
