Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Promega.
Research Scientist
Started with a recruiter phone call, then a video chat with the team lead. After that, there was a lunch meeting with both the project and team leads, followed by dinner with some team members. The final stage was an on-site interview that took up most of the day, which included a one-hour presentation. Everyone was nice, and I had some good chats. It was quite a bit of effort to get rejected in the end, but I guess that's how it goes.
- Could you answer technical questions about your presentation?
- Could you answer technical questions about your prior research experiences?
Research Scientist
The whole thing took about two months. First, I had a 45-minute phone screen with HR. Then, I had two 1-hour interviews, one with the hiring manager and another with a team member. After that, I went on-site for a presentation and met about 10 people from the team. Following my presentation, I had five 30-minute interviews, and then we had lunch on campus. The questions were all pretty standard, nothing too surprising. Most of them were about what I'm looking for in a new role and why I'd be a good fit for the team. It was a long process, but not the toughest interview I've ever had.
- Tell me why you believe you'd be a great addition to this team.
- What are your expectations for your next role?
Research Scientist
The interview process was terrible. Key people who would influence the hiring decision didn't attend my seminar. The lab head mentioned on the phone that there was a lot of work available. Then, during the interview, he asked about the research I would bring to the lab. Even if I had been offered a position, I likely would have declined after that.
- What research would you bring with you?
