Residential Counselor
The interview was alright. They asked me questions about myself, my motivation for this field, and my ability to maintain composure under pressure. After that, a background check is required, and then I wait for HR to contact me. If I get the job, they will schedule an orientation and two days of CPI training.
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Case Manager
Applied through Indeed and got a call for an interview for the Geffner house location. I got there and the admin assistant brought me to the room and I waited about 20-30 minutes for a clinical care coordinator. He asked if I was waiting for an interview and then said he wasn't interviewing me because he had a meeting, but staff were looking for the right person. After waiting another 10-15 minutes, he came back with a woman and said they were going to interview me. The woman was very unprofessional during the interview, constantly on her phone texting and scrolling social media. She'd ask a question and then immediately look at her phone. The man seemed more engaged, likely because he noticed her behavior. After the questions, she left without saying goodbye, but the man walked me out.
- What is your motivation for this position?
Training Specialist
So I had this 1-hour Zoom interview that went really well, felt like we were totally on the same page. She said I'd hear from the director in a few days. The next steps were an interview and a 20-minute presentation with the director, then I'd meet the team, which she said would be 'a formality.' I did meet the director and gave the presentation, which was like 15-20 minutes. After that, there was a panel interview with the whole team of 6 people. I kind of suspected that would happen. During the interview, I felt like the 2 hiring managers were into me, but 2 team members weren't really on board. They asked me questions about classroom management without giving enough context about the situation, expectations, and policies of the org. When they asked about 'physical breakdowns in class,' I wasn't sure what they meant or how crazy things got there. It was for adult education classes. A 'physical breakdown' could mean anything from someone slamming a door or throwing pens to someone having a seizure or one student attacking another. For some things, you can just talk to them, but other times you might need to call 911. At the end, they said I could ask questions, but we ran out of time so they said I could email them. After prepping a 15-minute presentation, interviewing for about 2.5 hours total, and sending a bunch of emails, I never even got a rejection email back. TL;DR: 1-hr interview, 20-min presentation, 1-hr panel interview = crickets.
- How would you handle a physical breakdown in class?
- What do you dislike about your current job?
IT Training Specialist
I applied via email and got a response the same day with an interview invitation and a request for a brief training. Less than a week later, I attended the interview and training with the CIO and Director of Training. It was a pleasant meeting and I felt good about the company. I was told I'd hear back in a week, but after a few weeks, I reached out myself via mail, phone, and messages. I never heard back, which was a shame given their initial enthusiasm. I hope they continue their great work.
