First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company.
Software Engineer
After applying online, I had a HR screening teams meeting, and then they sent me for an interview. They usually take about a week and a half to update you on your status after the interview. The interview didn't have any LeetCode-style questions; it was mainly to see if I was competent and interested in low-level coding. There were a few behavioral questions too, mostly for them to get to know me better. Overall, it was an okay experience.
- Can you describe your experience with embedded systems?
Intern
It began with a call from HR, then I had a meeting on Teams with an engineering manager. We discussed my general experience and resume, and it was mostly behavioral questions. The vibe was pretty chill, and both interviewers were really nice.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- Can you share an instance where you solved a problem?
Analyst
The process starts with an English proficiency assessment and conversation, followed by a chat with HR and a DISC assessment. After that, there are interviews with technical managers. The whole thing can take a few weeks, depending on everyone's availability.
- Can you share your previous work experiences and explain how this role aligns with your professional goals?
Trainee Developer
Process was messy. First general interview was in December, then they scheduled an HR interview for January. I did the interview, and the interviewer said I'd be in the next stage and to wait for her contact, which wouldn't take long. I waited a whole month, sent an email asking about the situation and got a super unfriendly response saying the whole process had ended and they'd already chosen the candidates. Meaning, she left me hanging and didn't even bother to tell me I wouldn't be part of the rest of the process.
