First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Progress Energy.
Senior Engineer
Progress Energy has a pretty standard interview process for nuclear utility jobs. You'll need to pass background checks, a drug test, and a personality test. The main interview is face-to-face with a panel of three, usually including an HR person. They'll ask you questions about leadership, technical stuff, projects, and how you get along with people, plus your strengths and weaknesses.
- Can you tell me about your biggest weakness and what you're doing to improve it?
Electrical Engineer
This was a pretty standard interview where two employees took turns asking me about my work abilities. They were really looking for someone who works hard and has good social skills. The employees were super friendly and totally not aggressive, so I just stayed calm and told the truth. P.S. I got offered the job and it turned out to be a fantastic place to work!!
- Tell me about a time you had a conflict with a teammate.
- What are your team leadership skills?
IT Problem Manager
Had a good interview that was split into two one hour sessions. It gave a good view into management of that area and interface with other business functions. There was adequate time to ask both formal and conversational questions related specifically to the job and the corporate culture. It was a a very secure IT operations center that showed the corporation's commitment to technology.
- Could not recall specific questions asked.
IT Analyst
After an initial on-campus 1:1, I was invited for an in-person interview. This part involved meeting with four different interviewers, each for about 30 minutes. The main goal was to assess my past experiences and gauge my potential fit within the company. We went over my resume, and even though I felt like I was repeating myself with the similar questions from each interviewer, the overall experience was positive and pleasant!
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
