First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Progress Energy Florida.
Implementation Coordinator
The hiring process was handled by a recruiter and I was quickly hired. The interviews were done over the phone with my direct supervisor and their manager. They asked some really technical questions about telecommunications related to the project to see how much I knew. The people at Progress were super smart and professional, and they have a good way of figuring out what people can do, even if it's not directly stated. They really value teamwork and a positive work atmosphere. Compared to other places, the two people I interviewed with at Progress Energy were much better at judging my skills than anyone else I've interviewed with.
- Can you share an instance where you had to solve a work-related problem and what the result was?
Customer Service Representative
A week after I applied online and was referred by my brother-in-law, I got a call for an interview. They asked why I wanted to leave my current job, why I was interested in Progress Energy, and if I had prior call center experience. The interviewer was really nice and easy to talk to. She offered me a chance to take an aptitude test. This test was tough, lasting two and a half hours. You needed to type at least 35 words per minute to pass the first part. There was a 10-minute break in the middle. I didn't end up taking it. The test checks how well you can listen to customers with different accents and handle information that pops up on the screen, focusing on accuracy. It also really tests your math skills, so make sure to practice that! Passing this test determined if I'd get a second interview. The second interview was with three very sweet ladies. They asked a variety of questions. One question required a thoughtful pause before answering, so don't just blurt out the first thing that comes to mind; make sure to give a good, relevant example. They presented a scenario: 'I'm a customer whose power is off, I have two kids, and can't pay until Friday, but it's only Monday. I've been a loyal customer for 5 years with perfect credit and always paid on time. Should I get my power turned on?' After this, they emailed me a week later with an offer. I needed to complete a drug screening and background check within 3 business days. Once those were cleared, there's a paid 10-week training period.
