Data Engineering Manager
It started with an HR screening, who was great and responsive. Then a round with the hiring manager about the role, and typical management stuff like hiring/firing, team culture, motivation, deadlines, and requests. Seemed more like team management and solution architecture, not much hands-on coding. The next round was weird; the interviewer didn't know the questions and pulled in an engineer. This engineer, maybe L1/L2, asked basic pandas and Spark syntax questions, like for `to_csv` or `repartition`. I said I could look up exact syntax but could code and read PRs. The engineer seemed to think I wasn't a great L2 engineer. Then a third round with someone from the actual team. They asked two questions: about Java Beans/Spring and a CICD tool. I said I didn't have that experience from my CV. Got rejected by the recruiter later. Felt like the hiring manager didn't communicate the hiring goals to the panel, causing confusion and wasting time.

Director of Incident Response
Recruiter reached out and we pre-negotiated salary. Had a phone interview with the VP who mumbled quite a bit. Call went well and we agreed to an in-person meeting for the next morning. Recruiter confirmed the positive feedback and my in-person interview, but then relayed that the company could only offer $25K less than we pre-negotiated. I asked about work-from-home options. I didn't hear back until the night before the interview, with the recruiter unable to reach the VP. I drove to the office for the interview, only to get an email from the recruiter stating the company has no WFH policy and cannot offer it. The email also stated she understood my need to decline the position and it was a pleasure working with me, without me ever declining. I drove home without going in. Key issues: salary dropped significantly after the phone interview, VP's poor communication, and iffy recruiter/company communication. The company will likely struggle to fill this Director role with the reduced salary and no WFH option, which is a must in today's market.
- Can you share details about your management experience?
Sales Recruiter
they emailed 'hey when are you available for a phone call?' I had changed my mind and I decided I did not want to work commision-only, so I emailed them my withdrawal. They replied, ' I understand. Not everybody wants to work hard & work/earn their money and make more. Some people just want to coast by and be average. It's ok I understand. we're not interested either.'
- The interview process concluded before it could begin.
Intern
I got the interview through my university connections and also some people I knew. It was a pretty standard process. They asked basic questions about why I thought I was a good fit and what roles I was interested in. Then we talked about my personal interests and what I do in my free time. It was a pretty easy process.
- Why are you a good fit for this position?
