Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Principal Financial Group.
Actuarial Intern
After an initial video interview, I proceeded to a 1 hour and 15 minute interview on Microsoft Teams. This consisted of two 30-minute sessions where two actuaries interviewed me concurrently, followed by a final 15-minute discussion.
- What draws you to this field, and what makes you want this specific role?
- Tell me about your interest in actuarial science and why you applied for this particular internship.
Actuarial Intern
It was a two day process, with the second day involving other programming tasks. The interview questions were pretty straightforward, focusing on what skills I bring to the table and touching upon my past experiences. Overall, I had a good time.
- What are the key skills you think are essential for this role?
Actuarial
HR reached out two weeks after I applied. I had a call with HR, a really nice lady, and she asked some standard behavioral questions. At the end of the phone screen, I was told they wanted me to come onsite for interviews and that HR would call to schedule travel. I never got a call or email about scheduling. I didn't follow up because I wasn't that interested in the company anyway, but it seems like bad HR if they lose candidates due to poor internal communication.
- Can you describe a situation where you did something controversial and what the result was?
