I first got a phone interview, but due to company training, they sent me some technical and coding questions to complete instead. A few days later, I had a phone interview to talk about my qualifications and experience. Then, I interviewed with two software engineers about the internship and my resume. After the interview process, there was a delay in their decision, but the recruiter kept me in the loop.

Behavioral Technical

First, there was a phone screen with the manager and a senior dev. They asked typical questions like how I found out about the job and what my experience is. They also asked some basic technical stuff like what OOP is and what languages/tech I've used. Then, I had an in-person interview with the manager and another senior dev.

Technical Coding

The technical interview was conducted via BlueJeans and started on time with no audio or video issues. As soon as the interview began, I was given sample code to review. Interestingly, they were looking for very direct answers and didn't engage in general discussion about what was wrong. For example, they presented an SQL query built using string concatenation without proper parameter escaping, which was not even the most significant problem.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • I was presented with a custom HttpServlet and asked to find potential issues. This servlet was written against best practices and had many problems. I pointed out some of them, realizing it was only a partial analysis. However, instead of discussing general solutions, we focused on fixing that specific servlet. They also asked what would happen if such code were deployed to production, emphasizing that certain code should never see production, which was the case here.
