Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Primark.
Store Manager
A few days after submitting my application, I received an email with instructions for the first step, which included situational, aptitude, and multitasking tests. They seemed quite simple and intuitive. I'm not entirely sure if they were actually 'graded,' but shortly after, I was contacted about proceeding with a business case. I'll keep you updated on how things develop.
- Discuss how you would manage merchandise delivery delays and chaotic store environments.
Store Manager
The interview process started with a phone call, followed by a second interview via FaceTime, both of which involved standard questions and in-depth discussions about my background. It was a really positive experience. After that, I had three more interviews face-to-face with the VP of HR, VP of Operations, and two Store Managers. They flew me out to their flagship store in Boston. The main challenges were the language barrier and understanding the different cultures of management. The last interview felt rushed, as it involved summing up two five-structure questions and doing a SWOT analysis of the store, all within 60 minutes to make my flight. The planning for all the interviews in one day wasn't great regarding timelines, which made the experience feel rushed.
- Could you elaborate on your background?
- What are some scenarios you've encountered in team management?
- How do you apply an entrepreneurial mindset to ordering standards?
Store Manager
A Primark recruiter reached out for a management role. I had an in-person interview. Afterward, I emailed the recruiter about how it went, as requested. Even though this wouldn't be my hired location, they wanted me to interview with the store manager in Staten Island. I didn't get a response to my email, so I followed up on February 19th, but still no response. Today is March 5th. As a manager who hires talent, I find this a tragic representation of a company that sets up interviews and never follows up. I commuted almost 2 hours for an interview in Staten Island and never received feedback. I'm not sure if I'm still a candidate for the role. Given how Primark handles interviewed candidates, I don't want to be part of a company that doesn't value people. Recruiters represent the company, and this recruiter failed them greatly. I hope this doesn't happen often. I highly discourage anyone from applying or interviewing with Primark.
- Could you walk the sales floor and point out the store's opportunities and strengths?
