Public Relations and Community Outreach
I was hesitant about this internship because I thought it might involve sales or door-to-door work, so I called to confirm if it was office-based and paid hourly. I was assured it was all in-office and paid $20/hour, even for interns. This turned out to be untrue, as the job description implied 30+ hours/week. In the second interview, the interviewer explained it was 100% commission and required 10 AM to 9 PM, Monday to Friday. When I pointed out the discrepancy with the phone call and job description, the interviewer ended the interview and said he'd talk to his manager. The front desk person later told me I could leave. It's unbelievable that the company misrepresented the role and then avoided addressing it with me.
- What are your ideal workplace characteristics?
- Can you explain the distinction between direct and indirect marketing?
Accounts Manager
The interview process felt off from the start. The first meeting was with the manager, who seemed nice, but there was a weird, untrustworthy vibe. They talked about the company and why I'd be a good fit but were super vague about the actual job details. Then, there was a second interview with a current employee where they finally revealed it's 100% commission, and the work hours are insane – like 12+ hours a day, Monday through Saturday, with Sundays off. If you get the job, it turns out to be door-to-door sales. You have to hit sales targets to move up to 'leadership,' which means you start interviewing others and recruiting a sales team. Your advancement depends solely on your sales and your team's sales. The whole team needs to hit a collective sales quota to get any promotion. People working there are nice, but it honestly feels like a pyramid scheme, even though they say it's a one-year program to own your own company. I saw people who'd been sales reps for way over a year. My advice? Don't bother unless you want a 100% commission door-to-door sales gig working 6 days a week from 9 am to 9:30 pm.
- What qualities make you a good fit for our company?
- Are you prepared to commit the necessary time and effort to reach a management position?
Marketing Representative
The interview experience was really positive. The manager was very direct and upfront about everything. He painted a clear picture of the growth possibilities within the company. The Manager/Owner shared his personal journey of success, starting in a similar role less than two years ago and now managing his own office, hiring and training staff, traveling for business, and emphasized that advancement is based purely on merit – your effort directly correlates with your success. He mentioned this business isn't for everyone, but it's ideal for those willing to work hard to achieve success. I'm excited about the opportunity here.
- What are your job aspirations?
Account Manager
The whole process took 2 days and was 3 steps. Day one was the first step, and day two had the second and third steps. Everyone was really nice, outgoing, and made you feel comfortable. Step 1 was a general meet and greet and to learn a bit about the company. Step 2 was similar but with more details about the position(s) and pay. This is also when it became clear it's a door-to-door, 100% sales role, and that you start from the ground up with potential promotion to AM later, not directly as an AM. Step 3 was a final check to see if it's what you want. No pressure or force to make any decision was applied.
- What skills do you possess that you believe will be advantageous to our company?
