Behavioral Technical Presentation

I had a recruiter call from Precoa, who was great and set up a 1:1 with the Regional Director. I really liked him and was sold. (Just to clarify, Precoa is a marketing company, not a funeral home pre-need service or pre-need insurance, and you won't actually be working for them.) My next interview was with someone from Krause Funeral Home, who I'd actually be working for as a 1099 contractor. A Precoa manager was also there observing. Then things got strange. I met with a Krause employee who's been there over 25 years. The interview was 3 hours, and she did most of the talking, with really deep, low-toned explanations and questions. She started by asking how attached I was to my goatee, saying Krause doesn't allow facial hair. I figured as a 1099, I could shave it. But then she said that while Precoa said I could set my own schedule, Krause requires a minimum of 60 hours a week and expects me back in the office if I'm not on a sales call. She mentioned that after I pay for my life insurance license, the training would be 12-hour days for 3-4 weeks, all at my expense, and that it would be way more intense than anything I'd ever experienced. She warned that if I made it through this 'Krause boot camp,' I'd get leads on rotation with the other four reps, but Krause, not Precoa, decides who gets them. She also shared that the last trainee didn't make it through because she 'didn't do what she said she would do' one day, and they let her go. She also mentioned the Krause family is 'very unique.' This whole experience with Krause was astounding, especially since Precoa made it sound like a dream job. I'd consider working for Precoa with a different funeral home that respects a true 1099 contractor, because Krause seems to want 1099 benefits while treating people like W2 employees without any benefits or salary, and I suspect they'd have other weird demands with threats of firing.

First, a recruiter called me back and set up a phone interview with the HR Manager. She described the position in detail. Then, I had another appointment to come in for an interview. I sat with a Sales Rep for about 30 minutes to see the day-to-day activities. After that, I was interviewed by a panel of 3 employees (different ages, genders, and positions) for 30 minutes, asking about myself and how I'd handle situations. Then, I met with another panel of 3 employees (again, diverse backgrounds) for more questions about myself and situational handling. I could ask both panels questions too. Both interviews went well.

They asked a lot of in-depth questions and were really considerate and careful during their hiring process. I didn't end up getting the job, but I felt respected and would think about applying again.
