I had initial video interviews with HR. After the first two, I was given an assessment, which turned out to be actual client work. They requested high-level work like a full PR plan and asked for three projects to be done over a weekend, which would have taken 30-40 hours. I declined because it felt like they wanted free work, and this company, also known as Top Agency, seems unethical.

So for this PR Coordinator gig, I had four video interviews, like a recruiter call, then the HR person (who was also the PR director back then), then the actual PR director, and finally the CEO. They weren't all bunched up, you know, spread out a bit. The kicker was this six-hour unpaid take-home assignment they hit me with. It was basically simulating the day-to-day stuff: sweeping (whatever that means in PR context lol), writing some headlines, and drafting a client email. And the worst part? They told me even if they hired me, that six hours of work wouldn't get reimbursed. Wild.

The interview process was really confusing and all over the place. First, I did this video Q&A thing, and they told me to connect with the Austin team for an interview. So I did a video interview, and then just heard nothing for months. Then, out of nowhere, the CEO emailed me saying he wanted me to come to the Austin office for an in-person interview. When I reached out to the Austin team, they decided I actually needed another video interview. I had another video interview, and then I emailed them to see what was up. They replied asking me more detailed questions via email about my career and passions, even though they had already grilled me on them during the video interview. They ended up rejecting me after not responding for 2 weeks.

I applied online and heard back in about a week. The interview process had 4 steps. First, there was a 1-way video interview where I recorded my answers to some questions, with each answer being up to a minute long. Then, I had a live 1-on-1 video call with someone from the leadership team. After that, I was given a live assignment that took about 2-3 hours to complete and show my skills for the role. Finally, I had an in-person interview at the office to check out the team and environment, which was really helpful.
