Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at POWER Engineers.
Electrical Engineer
The first call was a quick recruiter screen, pretty easy. They asked some standard questions that an intern would normally get asked during an initial phone call. It was a pretty good experience overall.
- What are four company values that are important to you when you're looking for a job?
Electrical Engineer
First I met with some booth reps at the career fair. Then the next day I had a technical exam to see what I knew. After a few weeks, I had an HR-type behavioral interview which was enjoyable. Several more weeks passed and I had a technical interview with four people from the SAS engineering team. More weeks went by, and then I had a full day on-site interview. It was mostly technical with a lot of engineers stopping by during the day.
- Can you explain a power system at a high level?
- Tell me about overcurrent protection.
- What are the characteristics of relays?
Electrical Engineer
This was a 10-week interview process. I had two phone screens and two separate face-to-face panel interviews which lasted about 12 hours in total. After all that, they checked all my references and grilled them about me. But then... nothing. I haven't heard back since. Usually, reference checks are the last step before an offer, unless something bad comes up, which is rare. This wasn't even a management role, just a regular engineering position. They were all nice to me though, no complaints about that. I'm not in a rush, but after three months, it'd be good to know what happened. Even a rejection is better than no answer. It seems like nobody is making a decision.
- Regarding your future, where do you envision yourself in five years?
- Tell me, do you own a dog?
