It began with a brief chat with HR about my background, how I approach design challenges, and how my experience aligns with what they're looking for. Then, there was a general discussion with a senior team member about my professional history. The next two rounds focused on reviewing my portfolio, critiquing an app, and assessing my design knowledge. What I liked most was that they didn't give out any assignments and were really open to questions, making it feel less like an interrogation.

The interview process is quite long and drawn out, with only one person interviewed per week. Over five weeks, I only completed three rounds and met three people, while I had already received two other offers. It's unusual that the whiteboarding session is conducted with just one designer, excluding other team members. This suggests that the decision to advance is solely based on that individual's feedback. They seem to be seeking designers who think identically to them, focusing on abstract 'why' questions rather than practical or experimental approaches. Echoing other Product Designer interview feedback, they tend to overcomplicate simple design challenges. The stages were: Recruiter, Hiring Manager, Design Director, and Whiteboard.

I got a quick call from the Recruiter who found me on LinkedIn. They talked about the interview process, my salary expectations, and the cool perks at Postman. First up was a portfolio walk-through. Then, rounds 2 and 3 felt like a combined session involving whiteboarding ideas and discussions. They might add up to two more rounds before the HR round if they need more assessment, but I got an offer after round 3. The whole thing was virtual and they were super mindful of everyone's time and really nice to talk to. Definitely ask your recruiter if you have questions, they're always helpful. Round 4 was with the head of HR to talk salary and get the full picture of what Postman offers.
