Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Postman.
Senior Frontend Engineer
The interview process had 3 rounds. The first was with the hiring manager, involving a technical question. The second was a coding round where I had to build a UI component in a language of my choice. The third round focused on system design, covering both Low-Level Design (LLD) and High-Level Design (HLD).
- Can you design a stopwatch component?
- How would you design a folder structure that supports n levels of nested files and folders?
- Design a real-time collaborative application similar to Notes, including both HLD and LLD.
Frontend Software Engineer
I was contacted by a recruiter for an intro call to align on the role. Then, I had a hiring manager interview to dig into my past experiences and their impact. The next step was an onsite with three parts: Systems Design, a FE UI interview, and a product sense interview. The whole thing took about 5 weeks, mostly because I had to reschedule a bunch due to personal stuff. They could probably do it faster if you were ready. All the interviews felt more like chats than like tests, where they didn't expect the perfect answer right away. I liked the process overall; the people seemed smart and easy to talk to.
- Can you share a project you worked on that significantly impacted the business?
- What's your approach to designing a chat application?
- Given a forked repo with starter code, how would you enhance an application by implementing CRUD features for its UI?
Frontend Developer
The interview process involved a screening round, a culture fit round, a technical interview, and then 2 system design rounds. The overall process was good until HR ghosted me. This happened after I completed the second technical round. HR had scheduled the system design round, but it was canceled 10 minutes beforehand because the interviewer had a medical emergency. Then the ghosting occurred.
- Can you explain the process that occurs when a URL is entered into a browser?
- Design and develop a tree table or breadcrumb.
- How would you flatten an array?
