First, there was a group interview where applicants discussed an industrial article, sharing their opinions and debating with others. Each applicant was assigned a side (pros or cons) and the discussion lasted up to 30 minutes. Next, there was an individual interview where two other applicants were present. This interview focused on my major and research projects.

The application, recruitment, and interview process for foreigners being hired for the POSCO Seoul office might be different from that of Korean employees. The interview was pretty much as in other Korean companies: be prepared for many personal questions (they asked about my family and their current job in my home country). There were many general questions about the company (what do you know? why do you apply? etc.) and its projects in your country. Half of the interview was in Korean to check your level.

The company's project team came to our country and needed local staff to help coordinate with the government and suppliers. I was the first local hire. My interview was pretty straightforward. Two Korean managers asked me about my background, experience, and skills. I kept my answers simple, honest, and to the point. Then they asked about my salary expectations. I didn't think I'd get the job in the first round, so I gave a really vague number, which ended up with me getting a low salary. My salary negotiation skills were definitely my weakest point in that interview.
