Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Portillo’s.
Cashier
The interview process was super fast and easy! They asked me about my pay expectations and why I felt I deserved that wage, if I'd done this kind of job before, and my reasons for wanting to join their team.
- What hourly wage are you seeking and what's your reasoning for that figure?
Cashier
I walked into a room with 10 other people interviewing, so I knew my chances were slim. The interviewer was really nice, and we talked about games, which was great. But I really dislike companies that make you interview with your competition.
- Tell me about a time you took the lead.
Cook
It was a very straight forward interview. They ask a lot about yourself and how you would work in a fast paced environment. They also ask about past work experiences and situational skills.
- Describe a time you managed a situation that was beyond your control.
