Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at POPSUGAR.
Editor
The interview process was extremely disorganized. They scheduled three interviews with less than 24 hours' notice. A lengthy and difficult test was also requested with a quick turnaround during a weekday. The founder seemed more interested in celebrity gossip than the company. They showed no respect for my time and then ignored me when I followed up after investing significant time in the process.

The interviewer was about 15 minutes late and seemed disinterested for the 5-10 minutes he asked me questions. The questions were extremely easy, where you would almost have to be trying to get them wrong. When asked what my day-rate was, I was told it was higher than what they usually pay, which was odd considering my rate is below industry standard and it was posted on a "Full Rate" job board. Never heard back after the interview.
- Can you describe the most stressful situation you have encountered?
- What are your thoughts on receiving feedback on your work?
- What is your day-rate?
Assistant Editor
The interview process was super chill and fun, though it did take a while. It started with a quick hello, then some writing assignments, and then a bunch of chats with different people on the team, all the way up to the President. It took about 6 weeks total, and I had around 8 conversations.
- Can you describe your typical daily internet usage?
- Which celebrities do you find yourself admiring?
- What kind of materials do you typically read?
