Software Engineer
I initially applied via EA's online platform, recommended by a friend. My application got rejected, but my friend talked to their supervisor, who then told the recruiter to reverse the decision and approve me for a phone screen. I did the phone screen, followed by a more technical phone screen. After passing both, I was invited for a 5-hour on-site interview with a series of 1-hour interviews and a lunch break. One technical part involved pair programming.
- Questions about algorithms, specifically array manipulation and object-oriented patterns, along with an architecture question, were the main focus of the on-site interviews.
- The array-oriented algorithm question during the pair programming portion was unsatisfactory due to the partner's unhelpful behavior and incorrect feedback regarding the language used.
- Tell me about your experience with algorithms, specifically array manipulation and object-oriented patterns.
Test Associate
Got contacted by phone after they looked at my resume. About two weeks after that, I went in for an on-site interview. It was with two people. They asked a lot of questions about how I'd fit into the company culture and if my technical skills were a good match. Because the job also involved doing tools and automation development, I also had to answer some programming questions.
- Can you tell me about a fancy algorithm you've used?
- Can you solve this string question?
- Questions about cultural fit.
Producer
The process for getting a straight answer out of recruiting was pretty rough. There were long silences and un-returned emails. It was really obvious I had to really want to work at PopCap to get in, so I spent a lot of time pestering people. I've seen others have the same frustrating experience with PopCap. It's hard to recommend it to colleagues because you know they're signing up for an exercise in frustration. The interview process was what I expected for a game company with a lot of teams. It was a multi-phased interview, and it was clear that knowledge and team fit were important.
- Do you like kids?
Web Developer
They're super focused on Magento Ecommerce and want to migrate from their current setup, but keeping the old database just in case. They really care about fitting into their 'culture,' and are pretty strict about hiring people in the 20s and 30s, so don't expect an offer if you're not in that age group. They want you to use OOP and modern tech.
- What's your pitch for switching to Magento?
- What are your thoughts on using OOP and new tech?
- How would you handle migrating to Magento and backing up the database?
