POP Interview Questions
& Process

I put in my application online and then someone reached out for a phone interview. After that, they decided to move me forward to an in-person interview where I had the chance to meet the recruiter and the person who would be my manager. They then asked me to come back for a second in-person interview. This time, I met with the person who was the receptionist before me, the recruiting manager, and the HR director.

The interview was pretty straightforward and not overly tough. My advice to people thinking about a job here is to really ask about the company culture and inquire about employee retention and turnover. Looking back, I don't think the company was totally upfront during the interview process, and having been part of interviews as an employee, I don't think hiring decisions are always based on the best reasons. I'd suggest chatting with former employees to get a better sense of the role and if it's a good fit.

My interview experience at POP Agency was terrible. They asked idealistic questions like "what would you most want to write about?", and they took my honest answer literally, which worked against me. They seem to hire beginners for cheap experience and then let them go, and their clients are low-tier. I spoke with HR who seemed understanding but was just mining me for gossip about my past clients. Then I had a video interview with a hiring manager who presented a fake nice image of the agency culture but was actually arrogant and wanted to hire less experienced people so he wouldn't be upstaged. I thought it went well, but I was rejected, likely because I wasn't young or naive enough. They constantly post copywriter jobs even when they aren't hiring.

First, I had a phone screen with recruiting to go over general skills and my background. Then, I spoke with a peer in a similar role for a phone screen and Q&A, where I was keen to learn about the daily tasks and 'day in the life.' Following that, another phone screen with recruiting to hash out job mechanics and benefits. The in-person part involved two interviews: the first was with leads and executives, and the second was with team members and client partners.
